Twitter, Email, and Cheap Headlines
Scoble writes about Twitter becoming the next "email" here. Well, interesting thoughts, but no! I'm not buying it and Scoble is using headlines to draw attention to himself and not his topic. In his article he doesn't even write how Twitter can become email. Sure, he writes how Twitter could potentially take the place of what spam does today.....projecting an advertising message far and wide with minimal effort. But it's not an interactive communication medium in the sense of today's email. I really wouldn't use Twitter to speak directly to someone. I wouldn't use Twitter to collaborate on documents being sent back and forth, etc. I agree that email is "kaputt" in some regards due to the amount of crap you get. At the same time, I believe Twitter is something different. I believe there are opportunities for Twitter to grow and come of its own, but I am not buying the discussion that it will replace email. Further, if you privately message someone using Twitter then it's just like email, packaged differently. It really is disappointing to see so little effort go into making a good argument and simply attracting attention to an article by titling it "The Next Email".
