Super Investor Conference
I just returned from three days in Paris at the SuperInvestor 2006 conference. I have to admit it was quite a good event. The people who were there were quite a good representation of the LP market and I was happy to be able to meet so many relevant people from the LP side. If you want a recommendation how to best take advantage of these events, I highly recommend setting up as many meetings beforehand as possible. When you get there it seems like everyone is already pre-booked to some extent (note to self for the future)! You also do have to be fairly resilient as it goes for three days with long nights. Finally, as at most conferences, the material presented on stage tends to be fairly common knowledge or repetitive, but as I had not been at this event in the past, it was worthwhile to get some "basics" on the stage in between networking.
The thing which I found the most compelling though was the presentation on the last day by the founder of the Ultimo Bra, Michelle Mone.
You may be asking yourself, why would the founder of the Ultimo bra company be speaking at an investor event. Well, she was brought in to give a whole new perspective on starting and growing a company (at least I hope this was their goal because if it wasn't, all the more respect for Michelle). I have to admit I found her presentation to be spectacular. After three days of dry investment related topics, she was a breath of fresh air into the event. She was quite funny and very candid which I like a lot. Finally, the fact that she sounded like Mike Myers with a Scottish accent made it all the more entertaining, even though I did struggle at times to really understand her. I took a look at the website and in addition to being quite stimulating for the male viewer (you may want to wait until you're at home to look at it), it's simply really well done and integrates online sales into a category where you may not necessarily look for it. I am always impressed when you get introduced to a whole new business you'd probably otherwise never look at. I think a lot of people should take a look (trust me guys, it's worth it) and if you ever have a chance to hear Michelle speak, it's quite fun.
Comments
sounds interesting. Any chance that her speech was taped and put online?
thanks, David
I don't believe a video tape was made as I did not see any cameras in the room. Too bad actually as it was one worth documenting even though many of the comments she made probably would not be good to have out on the internet via video if you know what I mean. You may want to check the SuperInvestor website to see if there is any transcript.
