Nokia is buying Navteq

Along the lines of my previous post, there are tons of opportunities in the location based services ("LBS") space. Take a look at Nokia's press release about their newest acquisition with a purchase price is approximately $8.1 billion. With their previous acquisition last year of Gate5, Nokia is ramping up for the shift to LBS. I applaud Nokia for going full force into this space. Apple is going there too as I am betting the next version of the iPhone will come with GPS. Once a critical mass of people see the possibility associated with LBS, you'll see it drive acquisitions of new devices and Nokia will do well. At the same time, I believe too many start-ups are missing the boat. They are simply not quick enough to create compelling enough services for potential users. With the need for large players to be in the LBS space, tons of trade sale opportunities are there.
