No 3G for Euro iPhone........nice knowin' ya!
In a pretty dumb move, Apple is releasing the iPhone in Europe just as it did in the US, without 3G. This is dumb. People will still buy the device and I am sure it won't really be a flop of any sort for Apple, but it just goes to show how they are experts at milking the consumer. Of course, down the road, there will be an updated version with 3G. Since you can't "upgrade" a phone without a 3G antenna in it, you'll have to go out and buy a new device. I was going to hold off and wait for the iPhone when it launched. If it had 3G, I would have bought it right away. Now, no go! I'm getting the Samsung Ultra Smart F700! Better camera, most imortantly 3G (including HSDPA), QWERTY keyboard and expandable memory.

I totally agree that 3G is a total battery drain. But Apple needs to step up and innovate. Make it work and you get people away from the other brands. Right now they just don't offer enough compelling features for me to even consider the iPhone, regardless of how annoying it is to regularly have to recharge my phone's battery. On the other hand, it really isn't that much of a burden to take a tiny charger with me which I can plug directly into my laptop. The battery argument alone and sacrificing performance for design doesn't quite do it for me.
Innovation in this case might have meant not releasing an iPhone until early next year and Apple decided not to leave those profits off the table.
