iPhones World Domination Imminent
Ran across this yesterday. Mark this under iCrazy:
According to a Web survey by Harris Interactive Technology Research, nearly one fifth of American adults are planning to buy Apple's first cell phone.
A recent Web poll revealed that a whopping 47 percent of American adults have heard of the hotly anticipated iPhone. The Harris Interactive Technology Research survey also found that 17 percent of those polled planned on actually buying the handset.
Among the 17 percent interested in purchasing the iPhone, 9 percent said they would buy it at launch and 8 percent said they would buy it before their current wireless contract was up. However, 17 percent of those interested in purchasing the iPhone said they planned on waiting till their contract is over. The survey also revealed that switching to AT&T might cause people to hold off on shelling out for the iPhone as a quarter of those interested in purchasing the phone said they would wait until their current carrier picks it up. Based on the survey, it seems that price is the biggest deterrent, since 40 percent said that they would wait until the price drops before snatching up the handset.
The Harris Interactive poll also touched on what people felt was the iPhone's hottest feature, and a full 37 percent responded that its large storage capacity, while its quad-band "world phone" capabilities and innovative interface came in second and third, with 36 percent and 31 percent respectively.
The survey was conducted by Harris Interactive Technology Research online from February 13, 2007 to February 19, 2007. About 1,116 American adults over the age of 18 participated in the poll.
I don't know about you, but I find this a bit scary considering the device is not even out and will be the first generation with all the respective bugs.
17% of all adults want the iPhone and 47% are aware of it? WOW, this is some fine marketing! I must admit that I've also been hotly anticipating this device but at the same time with my usual reservations. The promises of it being paradigm changing in terms of mobile devices seems a bit over-hyped. I'm sure it'll have some nice features but I am not foreseeing my whole way of living and working changing via the purchase of this thing. Further, I'm seeing the tendency on my end to use the iPod less and less. It was fun to always have music with me but at the same time I kind of tired of always being detached from my surroundings. Even at the gym I much rather be able to chat instead of completely zoning out. I guess it's just me.
Anyway, the main game-changer of the iPhone is that it incorporates the iPod with both music and video as well as phone technology.....not much else. Well, this isn't going to really make me run over to the iStore. I may even be tempted to react the same way as with the iPod. I didn't buy one until the third generation of the device came out.
