Handling rejection!
OK folks, we get a lot of business plans here at Neuhaus as do most VC's. If you're an entrepreneur, please keep one thing in mind. We won't necessarily invest in every company which sends us a plan. I'm sure hundreds of people have already written about this, but do me a favor! If we turn down your business plan, don't get pissed off and shoot us an angry e-mail response. It really isn't going to do much for your chances of convincing us you're a company to work with, and please do realize that we probably can't spend as much time reviewing your documents as you would wish. It's a numbers game and there is only so much we can do in the limited time we usually have. Further, don't think if we respond quickly and succinctly that we didn't spend any time reviewing your business plan at all. I am not one who likes to draw out our discussions with start-ups who could be on the road fundraising elsewhere. If we won't invest in your current round, we'll be quick to let you know. This let's you focus on the remaing investors whom you are talking to and doesn't waste your time. I was shocked today to be "scolded" by a potential target company for reacting quickly. I have to say, I'm more used to getting slack for taking too long to respond. You learn something new everyday I guess!
